Robots Land at Melbourne Zoo!

Melbourne Zoo

Robots appeared at Melbourne Zoo today!

High school students were creating and building robots to suit their theme of the day and the whole room was full of robot parts everywhere! What impressed everyone was their level of creativity and resilience at building their robots which is no mean feat!  What's more, most of them had never built a robot prior to today.

To all the students at this Robotics Club incursion at Melbourne Zoo today – you guys and girls rock! It was a pleasure to be a part of your program!

Young Explorer Spring Camp 2014

The Young Explorer Camp which saw our campers from Melbourne and all over Victoria innovate with circuits, electronics and modular robotics was a hit! Making and creating are certainly still a part of this young generation.

Students in Grades 1 to 4 worked together on different modules and projects, trying out different circuits, creating and inventing through the day camp. This camp has been sold out quickly during the past two seasons so if you missed out, it’s best to secure an Innovate Tech Camp early.

Check out the Spring 2014 Young Explorer Photo Gallery

We are looking forward to more creation and fun as we bring out the makers in children with our Innovate Tech Camps Summer School in January 2015.

Spring Holiday Programs 2014

Tech camp Spring 2014

Innovate Tech Camps and Robotics Club's Spring technology camps for kids and teens starts tomorrow! We are certainly looking forward to this exciting adventure in the next week and a half.

We are starting the Young Explorer program tomorrow which has Cubelets (modular robotics) and electronics and lots of projects to complete. Oooh what exploration!

There is the Mindstorms EV3, NXT and Vex IQ and Vex robots coming out in full force over the holidays on different adventures. There is never a dull day at Robotics Club. Tiring, maybe but dull – NEVER!

Yes, lots to pack up and move around but hey, that means more kids and teens are being impacted all over Melbourne and Victoria. We're sorry if you missed out on some of our camps. We've just got two spots left for the Young Inventor Add It Up Camp and the Teen Innovator if you wish to make a final dash!

The most exciting thing is, stay tuned for our Summer School…….

Have a great holiday!

Robotics Club Goes Places With Robots!

Zoo pic

The excitement over the Spring Holidays 2014 is mounting!  That's because our robots are going  to new places during the holidays till the end of the year!

The emphasis on STEM is growing and robots prove to be highly engaging to students in the classroom and elsewhere. When robots make an appearance, students are able to appreciate them more as they are given opportunities to interact with them.

More will be revealed about some of the interesting places our robots have been invited to and where Robotics Club will be over the next few months. We can't help but be very thankful for opportunities to reach out to so many students!

The Vex IQ Robot, A STEM Phenomena

The VEX IQ robot  comes with structural elements which snap together making it easy to assemble and disassemble easily. With a variety of sensors such as the distance sensor, the colour sensor and the gyro sensor among others, the Vex IQ robots excites students to play with them and explore different possibilities.

The best part of the Vex IQ robot, is how student friendly and far less intimidating it is. It has a remote control joystick which makes the robot instantly available for use, right after students have built it. There is no need to wait to program it to see it move, just use the joystick and there you have it – the instant gratification of driving a robot!

The Vex IQ robot is an instant hit with kids, teens and even adults wherever it goes. Everyone wants to have a go! With its brother the great Vex robot making its way into Australian high schools, the Vex IQ robot serves as a good tool to teach STEM to students in elementary and middle school.

If you want to embrace learning about this phenomenal robot and don't wish to miss out, join a Vex IQ Robotics Club and try it out for yourself!

No robot? No problem

Do you have a robot? If not, no worries!  Robot Virtual Worlds (RVW) is a high-end simulation environment that enables students, without robots, to learn programming.

RVW is a cost effective solution for students to learn programming at home as well as teachers to use in the classroom. RVW simulates popular real world VEX®, LEGO®, and TETRIX® robots in 3D environments while using the same language, ROBOTC, to program both
virtual and physical robots.

The RVW environment is perfect for the home, classroom, and competition environments! Get into the virtual programming environment today and you will be amazed at what you can learn and discover.

To purchase your very own Robot Virtual World, please visit Robotics Club Store.

Robotics Club Mobile STEM Incursions

Trailer 3

Robotics Club is now mobile and on the road  to schools with our Mobile STEM Incursions. Yes, now we can bring our robots and game fields directly to schools for incursions. We have a few exciting incursions coming up for Term 4, 2014!

For more information on our incursion programs, visit Robotics Club.

We are now accepting bookings for Term 4, 2014 and Term 1, 2015.  So if you fancy Robotics Club at your school, simply email [email protected] or call 9018-5331.

Robotics Club Store

The Robotics Club Store is now open thanks to our web team who have put in many hours of work to get it started. The store caters to our club members, tech camp attendees, teachers, school robotics teams and the general public.

We've got the popular ROBOT C software, Robot Virtual Worlds (the innovative alternative to a physical robot), cool engineering notebooks, Vex Robotics Kits, Tech Camp program for kids and more coming up in due course.

Robotics provides students with soft skills

Social Media September

Robotics provides students with soft skills. Skills which are just as useful if not more than technical skills. The ability to communicate well, develop good relations with others and a person's attitude will help them go further.

Robotics in the classroom is one such place where a student's soft skills are put to the test. The high energy levels, discussions, debates, team building and communication skills are challenged each time. However, students at our club know that it is perfectly fine to make mistakes and that learning from mistakes is good for everyone.

Students become aware of the need to work as a team as well as the need to communicate with other students. They become exposed to real life work situations which can prove to be challenging in many aspects. Yet they also get to face successful teamwork and begin to understand how important their attitude to situations and circumstances are.

It is not just about a robot or learning how to make one, but the situations that arise from invention, innovation and creativity and how to manage that successfully with others.

A Robotics Club and Autodesk event

Robotics Club in partnership with Autodesk held an event for teachers at the Autodesk facility at Kilsyth. Teachers were given an exclusive industry tour of the Autodesk facility with their cool machines and to come face to face with innovation. They were given a presentation about Autodesk Inventor and other Autodesk products and how Inventor can be used for Vex robotics.

It was an event everyone enjoyed and learnt a lot from from the feedback we got from the teachers. A big thank you to the presenters and staff of Autodesk for hosting this event and for your time and effort.

We are very excited about more upcoming Autodesk events.
