Robotics Certification Pathway

Robotics Certification is an exam that provides official certification on your knowledge of the robotics system related electronics, programming and physical computing.

Overview:

The Robotics Certification Pathway (available for Robotics Academy programs)  is an Elective Module for Robotics Academy students who wish to take on higher learning to challenge themselves on their knowledge of robotics.

Based on the robotics system the students learn in their respective academy programs, students will start the pathway with a Robotics Certification Level 1 which covers an Introduction to Robotics and can choose to continue to Level 2 and Level 3 (after completing Level 1 successfully). In order to achieve the Robotics Certification, students must achieve a minimum grade of 75%. Students who have obtained grades less than 75% are allowed one re-test. Students will have to re-register if they do not achieve the 75% and higher grade during the re-test.

Certification Requirements:

  • A grade of 75% or above is required for certification.

  • Qualification Criteria:

    • Must be enrolled in a Robotics program at Innovate Academy for at least one full term and midway through the second term.
    • Certification is specific to the program signed up for.
    • Elective and non-compulsory.
    • Not available to non-academy students.
    • Suitable for students in Year 1 to Year 6.

The Robotics Certification Pathway recognises student learning in robotics theory, systems thinking, coding, design, and applied problem-solving. It is designed for students who want to move beyond participation and demonstrate deeper understanding of robotics concepts and technical application.

Robotics certification levels

  • Level 1 – foundational robotics theory and understanding.
  • Level 2 – deeper robotics theory with preparation for higher-level application.
  • Level 3 – more advanced learning that may include theory, practical application, coding, and design-based components depending on the program structure.

What the certification assesses

  • Robotics concepts and systems
  • Programming and control logic
  • Engineering thinking
  • Design processes
  • Problem-solving in robotics contexts
  • Higher-level application and design thinking

Certification structure

  • Certification is awarded by level.
  • Students must complete the required learning and preparation tasks.
  • Students must achieve 75% or above.
  • Students progress to higher levels after successful completion of earlier levels.
  • Some higher levels may include practical or project-based assessment components.

Why parents value this pathway

Leadership development helps students grow in confidence, maturity, and personal responsibility. It complements technical learning by helping students develop the habits and mindset needed for school, teamwork, and future opportunities.

Preparation for Certification Exams

Certification exams are not simply unlocked by registration. Students must first complete the required preparation for their subject and level. This may include base learning requirements, Forge-based exercises, revision tasks, external exercises where applicable, project or practical preparation, and teacher or admin review.

Important: All required exam preparation must be completed at least two weeks before the exam date. The final two weeks before the exam are intended for revision and consolidation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are these exams theory-based or practical?

Levels 1 and 2 Robotics and Coding certifications are currently fully theory-based. CAD and Game Design style certifications are generally project tasks to be completed at home. Higher levels may include practical components and project-based assessments depending on the pathway.

In most cases, students are expected to complete levels progressively. Students generally complete Level 1 first before moving to Level 2, especially where Level 2 builds on prior learning. If an exception is ever offered, it would be determined by the academy based on readiness and qualification.

Students must achieve 75% or above to pass. If a student does not reach the required mark, they may be offered a re-test or a further opportunity depending on the pathway and current certification rules. If they are still unsuccessful after the permitted re-test, re-registration may be required for a future attempt.

No. Certification exams are elective and non-compulsory. They are designed for students who would like to extend themselves and pursue an additional challenge alongside their normal academy learning.

No. These certification pathways are currently available only to eligible Innovate Academy students enrolled in the relevant program.

Certification pathways help students deepen their knowledge, strengthen discipline, and demonstrate commitment in a specialist learning area. They can support future academic applications, selective or advanced learning opportunities, scholarships, leadership development, and broader confidence in presenting their capabilities.

No. Not all certifications include a practical project requirement. Some pathways are theory-based at certain levels, while others may include project work, practical tasks, or reviewed components depending on the certification type and level.

Students are generally expected to be enrolled in the relevant academy program for at least one full term and be midway through the second term before attempting certification. Final readiness also depends on completion of the required learning and preparation tasks.
