Letting go is hard.
Yes, in robotics, letting the robot go on its mission takes courage. Students usually want to see immediate success and often reach out to stop the robot when they see a “catastrophic” event coming up for it.
Persuading them to let the robot go to see the full outcome which could help them troubleshoot the issues or plan the next steps, takes time on our part and courage on theirs.
We have to admit that as humans, we often can’t bear to see our hard work turn out differently from what we planned.
This is where the learning is. Developing the courage to let the robot go, perform its work and being able to see the improvements needed as work in progress. Never a fail.
Let’s celebrate Robotics for what it teaches us.
