Course Description: Develop your own Android App  (Digital Transformation)

Path: Computer Science
Prerequisite: No prior experience in robotics required. Student should come with a positive attitude to learning new technology.

Date: 3 to 5 July 2019, Wednesday to Friday
Time: 9.00am – 3.00pm (3 Day program)
Location: Forest Hill College, Burwood East, Victoria
Cost: $330 (includes GST)

The purpose of this workshop is to help participants leverage their potential of mobile computing technologies. Android Operating System has now caught up and led mobile OS market with an advantage of being open-source, customizable and allows for multitasking.

MIT App Inventor is a web-based tool consisted of two major elements – Component Designer and Block Editor, which together allow users without prior programming experience to develop mobile apps.

Through Component designer, one can design the app’s interface and integrate the non-visible components (Example Global Positioning System, sound, etc).

With Block editor, one can program app’s behaviour and tell how an app reacts under certain circumstances.

The most powerful part of AI lies in its virtual programming capability, where one can drag, drop, and arrange various interfaces, non-visible components and behaviour logic blocks to create full functioning mobile apps.

  • Overview about what an application is and what it does in a phone/tablet.

  • Overview of MIT App Inventor and its functioning.

  • Building your first application.

  • Learning new components constantly and applying that knowledge in building functionality in your application.

  • Hands on experience with some exciting components to perform functionalities in your application. Some of them include capturing images, playing a video, recognizing different sounds, recording a sound, working with maps, detecting movements, and many more.

STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

  • Introduction to computer programming, algorithms and basic logic controls
  • Creating first app and familiarizing with App Inventor 2
  • This workshop finishes with a complete mobile app

 

SOFTWARE & HARDWARE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT:

  • Learn coding in App Inventor blocks based coding

WHAT STUDENTS BRING HOME:

  • Certificate of Completion
  • Students in Innovate Tech Camps programs ONLY can take home video files of the week’s projects and detailing how well their team’s projects accomplished goals (Students will have to bring their own cameras)
  • Students in Coding camps must bring a USB to save their files

8.45am-9.00am: Check-in. All students meet for morning announcements, ice breakers, and team-building activities.

9:30am: Students will gather in their respective course groups. Get started!

Breaks are taken at the discretion of each instructor.

12.00pm: Lunch time & Play

12.50 pm: Students will gather back in their respective course groups. Back to creating and learning!

3:00pm: Home Sweet Home

We have class sizes up to a maximum of 12 students per instructor. At INNOVATE TECH CAMPS, we want each student to develop their passion in technology and their leadership skills. Our instructors are passionate about technology and bringing out the best in our students.

TEEN INNOVATOR PROGRAM

The Teen Innovator Programs are designed with the teen in mind. The Teen Inventor Program infuses leadership and good core values together with advanced technology, coding, robotics, artificial intelligence and creating.

The programs enable teens to learn more about themselves and discover their talents while learning about advanced technologies. This series was created to emphasize innovation and its importance in the education of today. Teens will learn the value of resilience, other good values and how to problem solve, which will bring out the leader in them as they prepare for their future careers.
