MVPS GAME COMPUTER SCIENCE ACADEMY (Year 1 to 6)

Program Description

Game Development Academy: More Than Just Play

In today’s technology-driven world, a strong foundation in computer science is essential for every student. The Game Development Academy at Mount View Primary School goes beyond play—focusing on building real coding skills through the exciting process of game creation. Game creation is a powerful, engaging way for your child to learn coding and technology—setting them up for a confident, creative, and future-ready path. Minecraft Education is the tool we use for coding in class – Block Coding & Python depending on year levels & ability.

Why Game Development?

  • Learning Through Creation: By making games, students don’t just play—they learn vital coding concepts, strengthen computational and logical thinking, and develop critical problem-solving abilities.
  • Engaging Tools: Using Minecraft Education’s digital curriculum, students explore, experiment, and grow their digital literacy—all while having fun.
  • Skill Development for the Future: Game development fosters tech-savvy, creative thinkers who are ready for the demands of secondary education and the modern workforce.
  • Soft Skills for Success: Collaboration, communication, and resilience are built into every project, helping students prepare for future study and work.
  • Purposeful Technology Use: At Innovate Technology & Robotics Academy, we understand that some families are concerned about excessive screen time. Our approach to technology is purposeful, guided, and balanced — focused on creativity, problem-solving, and real-world skills. Read about our Purposeful Technology Use
  • Safe and Purposeful Learning: At Innovate Technology & Robotics Academy, we use Minecraft: Education Edition, not the regular gaming version. This platform is designed by Microsoft specifically for schools and learning, with no public servers or unsafe content. Students work on guided coding, STEM, and teamwork challenges in a secure environment. It’s not gaming time — it’s creative learning time that builds problem-solving, collaboration, and digital skills safely.

Key Benefits:
  • Enhanced logical, computational, and critical thinking skills
  • Improved digital literacy and productive computer use
  • Development of essential soft skills for future academic and career success

"You (Sue) and Gary have been fantastic coaches and without both of you, our two teams wouldn't have gotten into the finals. This itself is an amazing achievement. Isaac learned a great deal throughout the year and he has achieved and accomplished things he never thought he could. This is only possible by having truly dedicated and supportive coaches"
