Computer Science Academy Programs

At Innovate Computer Science Academy, students learn a variety of programming languages through their coding and computational thinking development journey. Here is an overview of what students are learning at our weekly in after school and online program.

Start from a beginner and move through intermediate courses and achieve advanced certification and become an expert by Year 12.

Web Development | Data Science | Computer Science | Machine Learning | Web Design | Game Development | Mobile Development | Data Visualization

Learn how to design and develop a professional Website

You’ll build four simple websites using web development fundamentals, including HTML5/CSS3 and Bootstrap. You’ll learn to understand and modify the structure of basic website, as well as how to change the way a page looks and is laid out.

Learn how to design and develop a Game like a pro

Scratch, Unity, Unreal engine, Makecode Arcade, Gamemaker – students learn from foundation concepts and practical hand on lab and achieving expert level.

Learn how to design and develop ANDROID AND iOS Apps like a pro developer

Android studio or SWIFT – students learn from foundation concepts and with practical hands on lab and achieving expert level developing android and iOS applications.

HTML is the the foundation behind all web pages. It’s used to add structure and form to text, images, and more. CSS is the language used to style HTML content.

HTML is a type of markup language. It encapsulates, or “marks up” data within HTML tags, which define the data and describe its purpose on the webpage. The web browser then reads the HTML, which tells it things like which parts are headings, which parts are paragraphs, which parts are links, etc. The HTML describes the data to the browser, and the browser then displays the data accordingly.

That’s how the browser knows that.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of both languages so that you can create visually appealing web pages.

Objective C

Objective-C is the programming language behind iOS apps. Apple’s new language Swift is rising in the ranks, but Objective-C is still the recommended starting point for those looking to craft Apple apps for iPhones and iPads.

JavaScript (which, confusingly, is not at all related to Java) is another favorite programming language because it’s so ubiquitous on the web–it’s basically everywhere. JavaScript allows developers to add interactive elements to their website, and its presence is felt across the internet.

In this course you’ll be exposed to fundamental programming concepts, including object-oriented programming (OOP) using Java. You’ll build Java projects like a basic calculator to help you practice along the way.

Java is among the most popular programming languages out there, mainly because of how versatile and compatible it is. Java can be used for a large number of things, including software development, mobile applications, and large systems development. Knowing Java opens a great deal of doors for you as a developer.

Python is both one of the most popular programming languages and one of the fastest growing ones. In terms of popularity, it went from third place last year to second place in 2019. This open source language is frequently used for artificial intelligence applications and data science, but it’s also known to be easy to get started with.

It’s a great introduction to both fundamental programming concepts and the Python programming language. By the end, you’ll be familiar with Python syntax and you’ll be able to put into practice what you’ll have learned in a final project you’ll develop locally.

Python is a general-purpose, versatile and popular programming language. It’s great as a first language because it is concise and easy to read, and it is also a good language to have in any programmer’s stack as it can be used for everything from web development to software development and scientific applications.

C | C# | Ruby (Ruby on Rails)

C is the predecessor to more complex programming languages like Java and C#. C is best when you want to work small and when dealing with low-level applications. It’s widely used for embedded systems like the firmware of your television or the operating system of an airplane, as well as computer operating systems like Windows.

C# (pronounced C-sharp, not C-hashtag for you Twitter fans) is the language used in order to develop Microsoft apps. C# is syntactically nearly identical to Java. If you’re good at Java, you’ll likely have an easy time jumping onto C#. If you’re looking to work on Microsoft apps, C# is the way to go.

Cloud Technologies Academy

Australia’s first cloud technologies academy exclusively for Teens. Preparing Teens with real world practical tools and solutions.

Hands on practice labs on world’s top 3 cloud providers, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure Cloud. Teaching students cloud concepts and skills.

Empowering students for industry-recognized certifications and careers in the cloud. According to LinkedIn data, cloud computing is the number one hard skill companies need most. Professionals with the necessary cloud skills are in high demand.

To many, this might seem like a simple coding task but to a junior STEM student, this is an incredible achievement.

Something they might not have done before or knew they were even capable of.

Due to their really young age, it took a lot to get here. Instructions, hand holding, ...gentle reminders and lots and lots of encouragement.

Who knows if someone’s #STEM or #technology career was inspired from this little starter project or others such as this.

Don’t give up on the juniors.

Working it out

Behind the making of me (robot), was a group of people working it out. ⬇️

It might not have always have worked out according to what we wanted but we worked it out anyway.

The good thing is, we didn’t give up working it out.

...We will keep working on it while we work it out. 🦾

Over time, our competitive robotics teams start ditching the “I’ll try” when it comes to helping others in their team.

Instead, it becomes “I’ll do it.”

When that happens, it is a sign of growth and maturity in the team. It shows that they are comfortable with one ...another and caring for each other.

Perhaps it’s also because they are finding solutions everyday that they have become comfortable with being out of their comfort zone and just want to keep finding ways to help.

When that happens, it’s truly a joy to see.

Let’s talk about exasperating things that happen in the classroom. Hardware and software integration.

Sometimes things happen and more time is needed to troubleshoot the issue and while that happens, the STEM teacher can be under pressure to solve the problem as well as manage the class... and even classroom expectations. It is something that happens to us occasionally and we find that we have to become quick thinkers and have other activities for students to do while this is being sorted out.

That’s why it is good to have open conversations about the STEM classroom to students and parents.

Let them know that these things that occur are not abnormal but normal from time to time. Technology is not perfect. There will be issues. There will be harder and better days. It is all part of the problem solving we talk about when we say STEM.

Open and honest conversations around STEM learning are what we need.

Nothing makes an instructor more happy than a highly engaged and participative robotics class.

When they are so keen to raise their hands and speak out the answer, being unafraid of being incorrect, you know you are creating a safe STEM learning environment.

This learning ...environment, we will keep working on.

Step by step in STEM, we will get there. If we allow ourselves the opportunity to.

If we come into it, knowing we don’t have the answers all the time and that the journey to discovering solutions is the goal, we will feel alright about making mistakes or not getting to the solution.
We will feel that it is ok even if we didn’t know the answers YET, but who knows, next time we might.

Let us discover things step by step 🚶‍♀️, shall we?

If you are immersed in STEM, robotics, engineering, technology and systems etc, when you travel you can’t help but marvel at the sheer complexity and design behind sophisticated world class transportation systems.

You’d think:

How did they do all that? Who is the team behind ...this? How long did they take to complete the entire system? How far below did they have to get into? What challenges did they have? How did they overcome those obstacles?

What do they do daily to ensure this system functions? What are their team roles?

Did anyone ever tell them this whole MRT system feat would be a mission impossible? If so, how did they overcome those opinions and keep going?

Something we take for granted daily has a whole big team behind it, making sure people are safely moving about their daily lives. When we study STEM subjects, we are able to appreciate so much more behind every piece of technology, engineering design and anything designed to make human life better.
