Computer Science Academy Programs

At Innovate Computer Science Academy, students learn a variety of programming languages through their coding and computational thinking development journey. Here is an overview of what students are learning at our weekly in after school and online program.

Start from a beginner and move through intermediate courses and achieve advanced certification and become an expert by Year 12.

SUBJECTS TAUGHT IN THE ACADEMY

Web Development | Data Science | Computer Science | Machine Learning | Web Design | Game Development | Mobile Development | Data Visualization

Learn how to design and develop a professional Website

You’ll build four simple websites using web development fundamentals, including HTML5/CSS3 and Bootstrap. You’ll learn to understand and modify the structure of basic website, as well as how to change the way a page looks and is laid out.

Learn how to design and develop a Game like a pro

Scratch, Unity, Unreal engine, Makecode Arcade, Gamemaker – students learn from foundation concepts and practical hand on lab and achieving expert level.

Learn how to design and develop ANDROID AND iOS Apps like a pro developer

Android studio or SWIFT – students learn from foundation concepts and with practical hands on lab and achieving expert level developing android and iOS applications.

HTML & CSS

HTML is the the foundation behind all web pages. It’s used to add structure and form to text, images, and more. CSS is the language used to style HTML content.

HTML is a type of markup language. It encapsulates, or “marks up” data within HTML tags, which define the data and describe its purpose on the webpage. The web browser then reads the HTML, which tells it things like which parts are headings, which parts are paragraphs, which parts are links, etc. The HTML describes the data to the browser, and the browser then displays the data accordingly.

That’s how the browser knows that.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of both languages so that you can create visually appealing web pages.

Objective C

Objective-C is the programming language behind iOS apps. Apple’s new language Swift is rising in the ranks, but Objective-C is still the recommended starting point for those looking to craft Apple apps for iPhones and iPads.

Javascript

JavaScript (which, confusingly, is not at all related to Java) is another favorite programming language because it’s so ubiquitous on the web–it’s basically everywhere. JavaScript allows developers to add interactive elements to their website, and its presence is felt across the internet.

Java

In this course you’ll be exposed to fundamental programming concepts, including object-oriented programming (OOP) using Java. You’ll build Java projects like a basic calculator to help you practice along the way.

Java is among the most popular programming languages out there, mainly because of how versatile and compatible it is. Java can be used for a large number of things, including software development, mobile applications, and large systems development. Knowing Java opens a great deal of doors for you as a developer.

Python

Python is both one of the most popular programming languages and one of the fastest growing ones. In terms of popularity, it went from third place last year to second place in 2019. This open source language is frequently used for artificial intelligence applications and data science, but it’s also known to be easy to get started with.

It’s a great introduction to both fundamental programming concepts and the Python programming language. By the end, you’ll be familiar with Python syntax and you’ll be able to put into practice what you’ll have learned in a final project you’ll develop locally.

Python is a general-purpose, versatile and popular programming language. It’s great as a first language because it is concise and easy to read, and it is also a good language to have in any programmer’s stack as it can be used for everything from web development to software development and scientific applications.

C | C# | Ruby (Ruby on Rails)

C is the predecessor to more complex programming languages like Java and C#. C is best when you want to work small and when dealing with low-level applications. It’s widely used for embedded systems like the firmware of your television or the operating system of an airplane, as well as computer operating systems like Windows.

C# (pronounced C-sharp, not C-hashtag for you Twitter fans) is the language used in order to develop Microsoft apps. C# is syntactically nearly identical to Java. If you’re good at Java, you’ll likely have an easy time jumping onto C#. If you’re looking to work on Microsoft apps, C# is the way to go.
