VCE Applied Computing Unit 3 & 4: Software Development

Year 11 and 12

VCE Software Development focuses on teaching students how to design, develop, and evaluate software solutions to meet specific needs. Students learn the fundamentals of programming, gaining skills in writing code, designing algorithms, and applying the software development life cycle (SDLC). They also explore user experience (UX) design, system testing, and debugging to ensure that their solutions are functional and efficient.

Throughout the course, students work on real-world projects that require them to create software applications from scratch, enhancing their problem-solving, critical thinking, and project management skills. This subject is ideal for those interested in careers such as software engineering, app development, or systems analysis.

VCE Applied Computing 3 & 4: Data Analytics

Year 11 and 12

VCE Data Analytics focuses on the collection, analysis, and presentation of data to solve problems and support decision-making. Students learn how to gather and manipulate data from various sources, clean and process it, and apply analytical techniques to identify trends and insights. They are trained to use data visualization tools to present their findings in clear, impactful formats such as dashboards, charts, and reports.

Ethical considerations and data security are also emphasized, ensuring students understand the responsibilities that come with handling data. This subject is suited for students interested in roles like data analysis, business intelligence, and market research, where understanding and interpreting data are key.

VCE Applied Computing 1 & 2

Year 10 and 11

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of computing and digital technologies, focusing on problem-solving, computational thinking, and solution development. In Unit 1, students explore the components of digital systems, including hardware, software, networks, and data management, while learning to design basic solutions such as apps or databases. Ethical, legal, and social considerations surrounding technology use are also examined. Unit 2 emphasizes project-based learning, where students collaboratively design, develop, and evaluate digital solutions tailored to real-world needs, using tools like websites, multimedia presentations, or simple games. This unit develops key skills in teamwork, project management, and data visualization, preparing students for advanced studies in Software Development or Data Analytics (seen above).

VCE Business Management

Year 10, 11 & 12

Students will explore how businesses operate and manage resources to achieve their objectives in a dynamic and competitive environment. They examine key areas such as business structures, management styles, corporate culture, and decision-making processes. The subject focuses on planning, staffing, and operations management, emphasizing the importance of corporate social responsibility and ethical business practices. Through case studies and practical examples, students learn how to analyze business performance, respond to change, and implement strategies for growth and success. This subject equips students with a strong foundation in business concepts and prepares them for future studies or careers in management, entrepreneurship, and related fields.
